MY STORY
Hi, I'm Aly Indermühle. Artist, illustrator, writer, and the person behind Studio Indermühle.
I've spent a long time working with color and light. Big color. The kind that lights up events and public spaces and makes people feel something, even if just for a moment. I've created large scale public art installations, and worked with some incredible clients along the way. But my heart has always loved to draw. Ever since I was a child I loved telling stories and entertaining people with pictures. That has never changed.
Everything I have ever made, whether it's an artwork, an illustration, or a coloring page, has always been about making people feel or experience joy.
I made the Playful Coloring series because I wanted people to have a little bit of their own feeling of creation. Then two years ago I made a huge shift in my practice. I chose to pursue children's literature and illustration along with creating my own illustrated books. It was a big leap from the contemporary art world but one I am so glad I took. Every day I get to create, not just for others but for myself. I don't take that for granted for a single second.
Most recently I created I See You: A Book for Artists, and I'm currently illustrating one of my many picture book manuscripts called Maddie Messy Mop, about a girl with a huge problem. Not just huge. Hair-raisingly huge.
My studio is in Sydney, Australia, where I work with the help of my two lovely assistants Gigi and Maddie, who also happen to be cats. They don't know they're assistants though. Please don't tell them.
I have an MFA from the National Art School, draw too many cats, and own way too many art supplies.
