Standing against the brilliant blue sky of Tamarama Beach, twenty 2-meter poles of varying circumference form a waved pattern as they appear to grow out of the earth. Each element is a colour originating in the brilliant daily hues of the location, from the break of the first dawn of the Australian sunrise to the deep indigo of the onset of a starry night over the Tasmin Sea. When approached front-on, the graduated tones softly move from one hue to the next. As the viewer moves around the structure to experience the sculpture, it continually blends the vibrant hues into new patterns of light and shadow with rhythms of depth and form. Each colour of the individual poles has been sampled from the imagery of the atmosphere at Tamarama Beach throughout the brilliance of a sunny summer day. The artwork visually translates the hues into the fleeting passage of time via colour. The Rhythms of the Day is an artwork of joy and life, one within its colours; we experience our moments and our memories and see ourselves.

It is a celebration of our existence in this everchanging world, the tempo and rhythm of life through the rise of the sunset to the oncoming night, then the dawn returning.
