The artwork Empathy Light by Aly Indermuhle is part of an ongoing investigation into utilizing light and colour as an interpersonal connective medium. The Empathy Light uses materials that are technology and scientifically based to interact and convey a message that promotes interpersonal connective art. The Empathy Light artwork aims to engage people across the globe of varying ages, races, and cultural backgrounds.

The Empathy Lights are a network of small child-sized tangible figures, an initial number of six. Each figure is comprised of translucent tactile materials that encase coloured light that emits warmth similar to that of human skin. When a person comes into contact with one of the figures, their presence is noted, and the artwork comes alive through the activation of coloured light in a soft pulse warming to the person's presence. The artwork responds directly to the individual’s company, however, if there is more than one other person interacting with the artwork it allows two humans to connect simultaneously through the mirrored behaviours of the figures through light and warmth.
