Woven 2023
Aly Indermühle
Materials: Projection Art
Location: Central Station Sydney
Concept Created for VIVD Light 2023
Status: Unrealised

Woven 2023 by artist Aly Indermuhle illuminates the interconnectedness of our lives through bands of vibrantly coloured light, which are naturally intertwined; each tactile thread or fibre closely placed next to the other binds together to create a more extensive and beautiful creation. The projection artwork reveals woven textiles metaphorically representing portraits of histories, generations, families, cultures, and communities bound together in shared moments at Vivid Light 2023.

Throughout history, in all cultures, craftspeople and artists have utilized weaving in one form or another. The ancient Greeks told myths of the three Fates, which worked as a collective of weavers that spun the thread of life. Likewise, contemporary physicists have theorized that at the fundamental level, all the different forces, particles, interactions, and manifestations of reality are woven together as part of the same framework.

Addressing the theme, Naturally, of Vivid 2023, this projection artwork represents us all. We are naturally weaving our future through connection while remembering our individual and collective past. It is an acknowledgment that new and exciting times await us, ones that encompass a sense of joy and optimism while illuminating our interactions with each other.

The artwork is proposed for projection at Sydney's Central Station (though it is adaptable for any building) due to the intertwining of paths and weaving of people's movements.
