In 2017, Aly Indermühle collaborated with seven other talented light artists to illuminate the Campbell Arcade, also known as the Degraves Street underpass, in Melbourne. This extraordinary exhibition, called Guides to Help You, showcased the power and versatility of light as an artistic medium. Aly's contribution to the exhibition consisted of three artworks: Acoustic, Vortex, and Metropolis, each exploring the expressive potential of the vibrant and soft colours of light.

Guides to Help You was a captivating showcase of artwork created using light. The exhibition presented a diverse range of creative approaches, featuring mesmerizing neon, fluorescent, and LED installations of various forms. The participating artists, including Aly Indermühle, Brendan Van Hek, Eugenia Raskopoulos, Kristin McIver, Marc Freeman, Tracy Sarroff, and Veronica Caven Aldous, are all accomplished multidisciplinary artists, each with their own unique stylistic and conceptual explorations of this medium. Their artworks spanned a wide range of ideas and themes, from abstraction, colour, form, and geometry to narratives of translation, social media, direction, existentialism, shared identities, science fiction, and ecology.

Situated within the vibrant and bustling public realm of the Degraves Street subway display cases, the artworks in the Campbell Arcade lit up their surroundings, commanding attention from passersby. Amidst the mid-century modern interior, the various pieces created a powerful presence, captivating both those who paused to admire them and those who hurriedly walked by. Their vibrant lights breathed life into words, evoked thought-provoking ideas, contemplated profound concepts, and occupied the space with their brilliant colours, engaging in a playful dance of illumination along the walls of the walkway.

Formerly known as the Platform Artists Run Space, the Campbell Arcade, Degraves St underpass is now skillfully managed and curated by the City of Melbourne and Creative Spaces. This transformation has allowed spectacular exhibitions like Guides to Help You to grace the underpass, providing a unique and captivating artistic experience for both locals and tourists alike.
