In 2016, during Sydney Art Month at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, the artist Aly Indermühle was graciously invited to bring her creative vision to life through a series of mesmerizing light art installations. These four unique installations, carefully placed around the campus, intrigued and captivated visitors as they embarked on a delightful journey of discovery.

One of the installations, titled as Rio, breathed life into a secluded window of the campus Library. Bursting with a symphony of vibrant hues, including pink, orange, yellow, blue, and magenta, this mesmerizing artwork effortlessly transformed the window into a colourful portal, inviting passersby to immerse themselves in its enchanting glow.

Another installation, titled Glitch, took form in an unexpected location—the underpass within the underground historical walkway system. Here, Aly Indermühle harnessed the power of ghostly green hues, intertwining them with lively fluorescent light. The result was a haunting illuminated display that created an ethereal ambience.

The third installation, titled Red Cyan Yellow, transported viewers back in time to an era rich in stained glass grandeur. Behind the frosted windows of the Chapel, Aly Indermühle's creation displayed vibrant tones reminiscent of these magnificent works of art.

The installation Yellow, Blue, Yellow presented itself gracefully in the windows of the Rayner Hoff Project space. This light work took the form of a ladder of radiant colour. The combination of yellow and blue hues created a striking juxtaposition, illustrating the profound impact that simplicity and harmony can have on our perception of beauty.

Through Aly Indermühle's inspired use of light, these four installations not only adorned the National Art School in Darlinghurst but also breathed life and wonder into those who encountered them. As visitors ventured through the campus, discovering these artworks, they were transported to a realm where colour and light offered a subjective experience, illuminating imaginations and evoking a sense of profound joy and appreciation for the power of artistic expression.
